DRT – Level 1 (6 hours)
(One-day workshop)
Emphasis is on acquiring a working knowledge of the following:
- The Comprehensive Model of Perfectionism
- Assessment of perfectionism traits, interpersonal manifestations, and cognitions
- The Perfectionism Social Disconnection Model
- Understanding of the structure and use of the Triangles (Triangle of Object Relations and Triangle of Adaptation)
- Understanding and use of the Cyclical Relational Pattern (CRP) as a means of guiding intervention selection
- Acquiring a working knowledge of the foundations of Dynamic-Relational Therapy including interpersonal theory, the nature of attachment and attachment styles, and principles of relational-dynamic theory as applied in individual and group psychotherapy
DRT – Level 2 (12 hours)
(Two-day workshop: Level 2A + Level 2B)
In this level the focus will be on application of Dynamic-Relational Therapy (both individual and group) including:
- Ongoing refinement of the working case conceptualization
- Levels of individual and group treatment
- Establishing and maintaining a collaborative working relationship
- Interpretation of transference material
- Use of countertransference to guide intervention
- Recognizing ruptures in the therapeutic alliance and doing the work of repair
- Importance of ongoing monitoring of treatment progress
DRT – Level 3 (12 hours)
(Two-day workshop: Level 3A + Level 3B)
Level three is aimed at individuals who wish to advance their competence further with the aim of providing training, supervision, and consultation to clinicians and graduate students wishing to acquire knowledge and skill in applying DRT. This phase of training is highly applied with participants presenting their work with others in the program. Participants will alternate between the role of consultant and supervisee/treating clinician who is seeking consultation on an active or recently completed case. Material to be covered will include:
- Helping supervisees articulate and refine their case conceptualization
- Creating a supervisory/consultation relationship that is safe and encourages transparency and risk-taking
- Exploring supervisee’s reaction to client transference
- Facilitating the supervisee’s attentiveness to and use of countertransference reactions
- Discussion of ethical considerations in treatment and supervision including:
- management of professional boundaries, awareness of one’s limitations, recognizing when one is experiencing heightened vulnerability and attending to clinician self-care
- Knowledge of empirical evidence for DRT
